LaVerne Helen(e or a) Bedell Trice was born on September 7, 1914
in Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa to Isaac (b 1/17/84
and Bertha (Naylor) Bedell (died at age 103). (b or
d 11/20?) Siblings: Wayne, Zoretta (Straight) and Mabel (McCullough-Rice)). LaVerne died in Kellerton, Iowa
on September 6, 1993. (one day short of age
80). She married Charles Bowers in
1933 who worked for the Great Northern Railroad. They Had one Daughter, Helen
Sylvia Bowers, born in Vancouver, Wa on May 3,
1937. He died in Spokane, Washington
in 4-4-1943, she married Walter Baldwin Trice, Jr.
who also worked for a railroad. He adopted Helen. (Birth certificate of
record lists: Helen Sylvia Trice!). The family lived in Spokane where Walter
became a successful insurance man for New York Life Insurance Co. Jeanne LaVerne Trice was born on June 22, 1946 in Spokane. They
attended the Congregational Church and lived on 2707 Rhyolite.
The family moved to Anchorage in 1948 and Walter went to work for the Alaska
Railroad as a telegrapher. Others born in Anchorage were Catherine Helena
10/17/49, Susan Patricia 12/22/50, Cynthia Eloise 12/21/53 and Walter Baldwin
III, born 1/9/52 and died the next day of prematurity. LaVerne
spent some time in California before returning to Iowa in 1968 where she
lived with her mother for 13 years.
