Marie (Pitz) Wilsterman was born on
October 14, 1896, in Brazil, Indiana.
William and Marie were the parents of seven children: Marie Alice,
William, Charles, Paul Howard, Richard, Donald and Raymond (who was nicknamed
“Tim”). William or Bill as he was called bought a truck and did some local
hauling. Later he worked for Roadway Express as an owner-operator long
distance truck driver. Later he
returned to driving locally. Bill died
on October 14, 1949. After his death,
Marie went to work for Yoder Bros. Company. The company produced flowers for
the wholesale market. Coming from a large family, Marie learned to work hard.
Her job each week was to do all the baking for the family. One of her
specialties was a recipe for Ammonia Cookies.
It was an old German recipe she learned from her German
grandmother. A few of her descendants
still make these cookies each Christmas.
In her later years, Marie became a diabetic and eventually lost most
of her sight. Marie died March 15th,
1988 at the age of 91 having had 7 children, 26 grandchildren, 48 great
grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Marie and her husband Bill Wilsterman are
buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, Ohio. |
