Lost Dutchman State Park in Arizona is special to Joan and I.  We spent quite a bit of time camping there on our first big road trip in 1995.  This park now has 134 camping spots, plus a few group camping spots.  In August, however, the place is empty.  I think there were only two other spots in use, and they had RVs with air conditioning.  In the evening, we hiked, cooked dinner and set up our tents.  As we played word games in the dark we could see powerful lighting storms to our North and South.  Then alarms sounded and warned on an impending dust storm.  We thought that sounded silly.  Then it went from breezy to 50 MPH winds and raining buckets in about a minute.  We rode out the storm in the van and watched our tents get trashed and unstaked.  The girls spent the night in the van since their tent and sleeping things were soaked.  I managed to get our tent back upright.  It was so hot that it really didn't seem to matter if things were a bit damp.  In the morning we hiked up into the Superstition Mountains a bit but we had a couple thousand miles to drive in three days.
