I've had my Ocean Kayaks Sprinter for 20 years. It's a rare, made in New Zeland, sit-on-top plastic surf ski built for warm ocean racing. It is long and skinny, which makes it very fast, but a little tippy. It is not an ideal boat for Ohio, or ideal for most people, but I love it. I usually paddle by myself, but when the family joins me we have a hodgepodge mix of old white water kayaks and skin-on-frame kayaks. Lately Joan has become more able to join me, but the other boat choices are considerably slower, so it's a bit miss-matched. My oldest plastic boat that I've had for 38 years developed a crack and would take on water. It wasn't salvageable. So, I decided to buy another fast boat. We picked up an old 17 foot Perception Eclipse Sealion. It's a bit heavy, but fast and stable.($375)
