Over Easter Break Joan and I headed to Alaska for my father's memorial. We had a good visit with family and extended family. The memorial was meaningful and well attended. My sister, Sheryl, had spent weeks with my Mother helping with planning and logistics. I was tasked with scanning old photos and making slideshows (yet to come). I was able to cross country ski at: Government Peak Recreation Area, Archangel Road (below Hatcher's Pass) and Kincaid Park. I believe I skied 8 of the 9 days we were there. This was our first time in Alaska in the winter this century and my first time skiing in Alaska in 30 years.

Government Peak Recreation Area This ski are is only 20 minutes from my parent's house. It had good snow, but was hillier and had faster downhills than I've become accustom to. I skied here several times.

Archangel Road My niece Robyn introduced me to the Archangel Road multi-use ski area. It was great to ski with her. This is a road below Hatcher's Pass that is groomed for cross country skiing in the winter. When I lived in Anchorage, I had the world class Kincaid Park and many other ski areas, so I never bothered traveling to Archangel in the winter. This trail is only 30 minutes from my parent's house and has much better spring snow than any sea level area. It's a light climb up and has a bit of downhill on the return. The view was also outstanding. I came back a few times,

Kincaid Park I skied at Kincaid Park just for old time sake. It was very warm and soft, but it was nice to ski on my old trails. The repurposed ski chalet had a cool blue print from the days when it was a Nike missile site.
