SPEAKER: William Wilsterman, Gunnery Training School, Las Vegas  

 

JUNE MEETING SUMMARY: Mrs. Susie Brown, whose father was an infantry officer at     D-Day, related several incidences involving General Patton including the liberation of the Lipizzaner Horses.   Jack Darnell, a 14th Air Force meteorologist, told a few of his adventures from the US to China via North Africa and the middle east including his delivery of $50,000 in silver coins to a group of fearsome looking and menacing Arabs.  Attendance was 84.

 

BOOK SALE: The Roundtable received 10 boxes of books dealing with WWII and Korea from the estate of Alan Smith. They are on sale (price range $ 1-10) with the proceeds going to the Roundtable. Currently they are being housed in the office of Dean Smith. For the present he will bring a different box to each of our next meetings.

2007 THEME: “Bring a Veteran”. Personally bring a veteran and his or her family with you to our meetings.

 

VHP: (Veterans History Project) Report: We are in desperate need of more Roundtable volunteers to interview vets.

FUTURE SPEAKERS:

August 23: Dr Bud Wentz, B-17 pilot shot down over Belgium and rescued by civilians. On another occasion his B-17 was rammed by a German fighter plane.

September 27: Ken Rogers: 45th (Thunderbird) infantry division, was in the landing at Anzio in WWII.  His regiment was on the line for 511 days. He was captured by the Germans.
