SPEAKER: JIM CHANDLER, a combat engineer in North Africa and ETO

AUGUST MEETING SUMMARY: Dan Hayes recounted his wartime service, first as a

would-be pilot, then as a radio operator trainee, then instructor and finally assigned to

a B-17crew. His plane went to Europe via Gander, the Azores, Tunisia an finally to

their final base in Foggia. He flew several missions but received only a scratch wound

from AA fire. He returned to the US in a liberty ship, not by air as he had hoped.

Attendance was 93.

the upcoming meetings. You should get your call about a week before each meeting.

VHP: (Veterans History Project) Report. Do you want to tape your wartime experiences? Contact Jerri Donohue (440 546 1207) to make arrangements. If you know of any veteran reunions in Ohio coming up please call Jerri so she can attend and get some of these veterans to record their stories.
