Annika's and Joan's Jazz Dances Christine Jones-Meneer SCHOOL OF DANCE The Grammy Awards Student Performances 5-25-2012 ~ Blog #452 (David & Joan)
The dance review each year has a
theme. This year's theme was the Grammy Awards. They had college
aged "presenters" in ball gowns announce a category, nominees
and winner before each of the dances. It was a clever way to
theme the show and tie the dance performances together. This
year's show was all tap and jazz dances. Annika was in the
youngest jazz class. They performed well but needed the
confidence that came from having their teacher, our friend Jenn
Black, on stage with them. They did a great job and were really
so darn cute. I also participated in a jazz number. The Parents'
Dance is a two year tradition featuring parents of dancers in
the school who get together for about six rehearsals and then
perform on stage. Our song was Freeze Frame by the J. Giles Band
form the 1980's. We were to be paparazzi following the opening
numbers' High Kick Line. The pictures show the different
performances. The three tap and jazz teachers danced one number
as "The Supremes".
