Matanuska Glacier Hike
July 18th -2014 ~ Blog # 654 (David)
The weather on Friday was perfect for a glacier hike. We had a nice drive, stopped at an interesting garage sale and ate lunch at the Long Rifle Lodge before heading onto the glacier. I wanted to climb to a high spot where we could see as much of the glacier as possible. Without crampons and climbing tools there's not an easy, safe way to do this. One side of the glacier, however, is covered with rocks, however. It's bouldery and not slippery even though the rocks are on top of a hundred feet of ice. So, we did just that and hiked to a high peak and had a decent vista and great cell phone reception. Then we headed to the pretty white and blue slippery ice, climbed around and took pictures.

041 - I'm guessing an eagle ate lunch on that high peak while enjoying the view.
