Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary Papa & Nana 6-27-2013 ~ Blog # 637 (David)
Free Cat Free kitten/young cat. This cat has been hanging around our house for the past few weeks. We are not cat people, but we've been feeding her and sort of taking care of her. Like I said, I'm not a cat person, but this is a really nice cat. The first time I saw her she walked up to me, purring, and rubbed against my leg. She purrs more often and loudly than any cat I've ever seen. She seems to like everyone and gets along with the dog very well. The mower had become more and more difficult to steer. When it got to the point where it just wouldn't turn anymore I finally looked at the problem. The right stub axel wore out the upper joint so severely that the steering control arm and tie rod had ground away part of the frame and were binding. I manufactured and welded a new joint out of an old jack handle; it's sturdier than new.

This weekend I acquired a beautiful 1985 Mercedes 300D Turbodiesel from our relatives who are moving to California. I absolutely love this car. It's a joy to drive; I love the feel, look, sound and smell of this car. (I've yet to taste it.) Despite weighing over 4500 pounds these cars are reported to get 20-25+ mpg. I've been tinkering with it and tightened up the steering box a bit. My only mechanical concern is the transmission; it shifts a bit hard. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that a 1985 car is now a 29 year old classic; it doesn't seem that old and 1985 doesn't seem that long ago. Around 1988 I had a 1965 Mercedes 190 Diesel; that car was only 23 years old but seemed ancient. The original owners of the 65 190 said it had over 500,000 miles on it; diesel motors rule. The girls said that it's like the old Volvo, only classier.

Annika's gymnastics club held a trophy class last Saturday. All of the girls in the beginner classes got to show off their learned skills and receive a trophy. Annika has only been taking gymnastics since February but loves it. I was fun for her sisters and parents to see her progress.

Do we have a cat? Maybe. We think we've been adopted by one, but aren't sure if we are fine with this arrangement. Nana is definitely not a cat person. Abby is not too sure some of the time, but other times seems quite fine with the idea. As cats go.. this one is very laid back and cuddly, even seems o.k. with a dog sniffing her all the time.

Svea and her classmates graduated from IHM on Monday. The ceremony was very nice and was followed by a runway show and party. The last shots below are from a "photo booth" at the graduation party.
